What struck me then and even long after I was home, was the energy she possessed, and the immediate connection I felt by her honesty and joy for life. Although I may never speak to her again, I will never forget what she gave me that day – a connection to take with me…., long after she is gone. |
SERVICES
SPECIALTIES Evaluation and Treatment for ages 12-75
| Kavita Hatten employs a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Style to address problems such as depression, anxiety and/or low self-esteem. Cognitive Behavior Theory stems for the concept that one’s problems, emotional difficulties and unhealthy behaviors originate from maladaptive ways of thinking about the situation. In easy to understand terms, this means, that the way we feel (emotion) and behave (action) in a particular situation, is influenced by how we think (cognition) about the situation. It also suggests that one’s “initial” thoughts about a situation may be irrational or false. For example, thinking one is always “unsuccessful”, despite having a long-standing job and several friends. In this situation, therapy would help the person “challenge” the irrational thought – “always unsuccessful”, by better understanding the thoughts’ origin, prevalence in the person’s daily life and substituting healthier ways of thinking. | Treatment using Cognitive Behavior Therapy can help individuals lead happier, healthier lives, as challenging irrational thinking and false beliefs can help lift debilitating emotions and improve overall behavior patterns. Research shows that Cognitive Behavior Therapy has successfully treated problems such as depression, anxiety and panic disorder. Kavita also works from an “eclectic” framework, which will enable her draw on other theories and techniques to assist you in reaching your therapy goals. Her culturally sensitive framework will honor your unique, individual life experiences. She will also tailor the treatment specifically to what works best for your situation and work along-side you in the counseling process. |
